International Symposium: „Ethics of the Sciences. Considering Technological, Political and Societal Transformations“

The research initiative Ethics of Sciences (EOS), in cooperation with the Institute of Advanced Studies for Ethics of the Sciences (IASEOS), is organizing the International Symposium "Ethics of the Sciences. Considering Technological, Political and Societal Transformations". Together with our international guests, we will discuss current ethical challenges the sciences are facing against the backdrop of current social, political and technological transformation processes.

International Symposium: „Ethics of the Sciences. Considering Technological, Political and Societal Transformations“

Location: Leibnizhaus, Holzmarkt 4-6, 30159 Hanover

The research initiative Ethics of Sciences (EOS), in cooperation with the Institute of Advanced Studies for Ethics of the Sciences (IASEOS), is organizing the International Symposium "Ethics of the Sciences. Considering Technological, Political and Societal Transformations". Together with our international guests, we will discuss current ethical challenges the sciences are facing against the backdrop of current social, political and technological transformation processes.
The symposium will focus on the influence of digitalization on scientific practice, the challenges of science communication in times of increasing uncertainty and insecurity, policy advice through science and questions of epistemic (in)justice. The event will be framed by two keynote:

Sabina Leonelli (University of Exeter): „Open Science and the Ethics of Research. A Troubled Relationship“
Eric Meslin (Immediate Past President Council of Canadian Academies, Ottawa): „Whom, What and Why We Should Trust. Ethical Prerequisites for Good Governance in Science“
